Working With See Differently to Resolve Their Unique Safety Requirements

This case study outlines how Omni Group partnered with See Differently,a charity supporting partially sighted workers, to improve safety and efficiency in their pallet wrapping operations. The project involved customising pallet wrapping machinery with enhanced safety features such as fencing, gates, and programmed control panel overrides. These improvements enabled See Differentlyโ€™s staff to independently and safely operate the equipment, reducing reliance on forklifts and empowering workers to manage the entire pallet wrapping and dispatch process.

About See Differently

See Differently is a not-for-profit organisation with the Royal Society for the Blind. A key part of the organisationโ€™s charter is to provide work and employment services for the partially sighted. This takes many forms, with the Manufacturing and Packaging Services division forming a crucial and long-standing pillar of the charity. For nearly 140 years, the industrial site in South Australia has been contributing to employment of the visually impaired. The organisation produces market-competitive solutions for many industries, including retail, manufacturing, and distribution.

The Problem

  • The See Differently team needed to be able to set up and operate their pallet wrapping without relying on additional machinery such as forklifts, which require driving skills.
  • Safety measures such as fences and gates were necessary to ensure operators could work safely and minimise risks when handling heavy machinery.

The Solution

  • See Differently conducted extensive assessments to determine their safety and efficiency requirements.

  • This machineโ€™s features include auto attach, cut off, and sealing of film tails, reducing manual handling.

The Results

  • Operators can now manually move pallets into place using hand trucks.
  • They have full control over the process from moving pallets and setting up the wrapping machines to transporting wrapped pallets to dispatch.
  • This empowerment has enabled staff to take ownership of the entire workflow, enhancing both job satisfaction and the quality of service delivered to customers.
