Increasing Homewaresโ Stretch Wrap Yield to Reduce Its Use

Homewares faced significant challenges with their pallet wrapping process that impacted costs, efficiency, and sustainability. Homewares is a leading wholesaler of outdoor furnishings and hardware, operating for over 25 years. Based in Melbourne, they manage national distribution from their head office and warehouse. The Problem
Homewares used 630 grams of stretch wrap per pallet totaling over 6,048 kg annually. This resulted in:
- High and increasing pallet wrapping costs
- Stretch wrap breakages caused by sharp edges on โCโ type loads
- Frequent downtime due to wrap failures
- Inefficient stretch wrap roll usage (only 17.5 pallets per roll)
The Solution
Homewares implemented theย Omni Base Pallet Wrapperwith power pre-stretch and auto cut-off, combined with 15ฮผm Euro Stretch Wrap. This allowed:
- Stretch film to stretch over 350%, extending roll length from 2,000m to over 9,000m
- Reduction of stretch wrap per pallet from 630g to 141g
- A 55% increase in puncture resistance to prevent breakages
The Results
By adopting Omniโs pallet wrapping system, Homewares achieved:
- A 77.6% reduction in stretch wrap usage
- Annual savings of over 4,694 kg of stretch wrap enough to fill 24 skip bins
- Cost savings exceeding $13,660 per year
- Improved roll efficiency: one Omni roll now wraps 97.9 pallets vs 17.5 previously
